Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. has opened a construction solicitation for Southside Trail Segment 6 Phase A, the section that will extend the trail from its current end at Glenwood Avenue toward Faith Avenue and Bill Kennedy Way.
The bid notice posted Sept. 29 describes work including erosion control, grading, storm drainage, utility relocation, concrete trail paving, raised intersections, lighting, security cameras, signage and pavement markings. The project is part of a roughly half-mile Segment 6 corridor along Bill Kennedy Way between Glenwood Avenue and Memorial Drive, a connection with direct implications for people walking and biking near East Atlanta Village, Glenwood Park and Ormewood Park.
What The Project Includes
The BeltLine’s project page says Segment 6 will replace the interim trail condition and add a new pedestrian bridge alongside the existing I-20 bridge. The work is divided into two sections: Section A in the Atlanta Department of Transportation right-of-way south of I-20 and Section B in the Georgia Department of Transportation right-of-way north of I-20.
What Happens Next
The current procurement listing identifies Segment 6 Phase A as a two-step invitation to bid. The BeltLine project page says construction is expected to take 16 to 18 months for each phase. The final contractor, construction start date and detailed traffic plan were not identified in the materials reviewed for this brief.
